iPhone Film Festival

The day for the first iPhone Film Festival in South America has arrived. Red carpet, popcorn, and even a live electric guitar player are present. Matt Goodman, an upperclassmen high school English teacher at Nido (who also happens to have been recently hired by High Tech High International and is moving to San Diego at the end of the semester) is welcoming the crowds into the building for his most recent project. A good portion of the visitors go into Matt's room, so we follow suit. There Matt introduces the project and projects how proud he is of his students. We watch a few student films shot entirely on iPhones, and then have the privilege of watching a movie shot in Australia by aboriginals, also shot solely with iPhones.

PTP and LASWP

After school the middle school has a department meeting that Erica and I are invited to not only join, but to lead parts of as well. For the first half, Lissa runs a Project Tuning Protocol for Sue's project on contraceptives and birth control. It goes very smoothly and we are able to not only help smooth out some aspects of her process, but also give some ideas that inspire her. For the second half, Brian leads a Looking At Student Work Protocol. In it, all of the teachers look at one of our sixth grade projects from when we were students at High Tech Middle. It's a book on Greek mythology with original artwork and writing. We examine the meaning of Deeper Learning, critique the work itself, and discuss the book's strengths and weaknesses.
