Student Film Festival

Yesterday, we were each asked to help with the student film festival. So today Erica ushers people in as Brian sets up one of the rooms and acts as tech support during the showings. The short videos were completed last quarter, and involved researching certain global companies in order to figure out whether their overall impact on the world has been negative or positive. Those companies include Nike, Coca-Cola, McDonalds and FIFA. Even though the videos wouldn't buffer fast enough to view in one go, it was easy to tell that the students had done their research when making them. Right before each video, a pair comes up and introduces their video and their findings. Afterwards, parents, teachers and peers enjoy the creation of the students and award a round of applause to the creators.

The PBL Club

After school we attend a PBL meeting led by Jason, a Nido teacher that took part in a deep dive at High Tech High last year. Ever since coming back from San Diego, he has been striving to bring his new ideas, philosophies and style back to Nido. As a way to implement PBL at Nido, Jason hosts these meetings every week for teachers interested in approaching teaching their classrooms differently. Thus we accompany Lissa to the meeting and get to meet Jason. He asks for updates on everyone's projects, and prompts the teachers to write down the thing they did the best with regards to their project, and then the thing they did the worst. After writing these down, everyone puts their best aspect and their worst aspect onto the wheel Jason made. Interestingly enough, everyone's positive aspects ended up on the right side of the wheel.
