Designing with Lissa

Unfortunately, Erica is sick again and stays at home. At school, Brian meets with Lissa to refine a peer critique method she is having her students take a part of tomorrow. He mentions the importance of having the student who's work is being critiqued be as silent as possible, and not react or try to justify aspects of their infographic. The student's work needs to stand on its own, and they won't always be present to explain their graphs or color choice to their audience. Lissa recognizes the importance as well, and they finalize the method.

Planning with Sue

After the PTP of yesterday, Brian offered further help to Sue who gladly accepted and set up a meeting for today. They plan for the project and discuss ideas from the PTP. Brian also introduces a variation of the peer critique we have shown to Nido, and Sue finds it fits perfectly with her project. Finally, they set a date for us to be in the classroom during the entire day and help with the project.     

Talking with Matt

Per Brett's request and out of curiosity and excitement, Brian meets with Matt to talk about the next stage of his life at High Tech High International. Brian finds out that Matt Goodman is actually a published author, has two kids and a wife. He likes to figure things out as they happen, so he didn't know much about Chile, Santiago, or even Nido when he moved here with his family. The same goes for San Diego; Matt loves High Tech High's philosophies (and has shown similar ideas through his implementation of projects at Nido) but has little idea what the day-to-day life of a teacher looks like in the High Tech High system. Here, Brian is able to offer a little bit of insight. The verdict is that--at least in Brian's eyes--Matt is a really cool teacher and will fit right in at HTHI.
